Summer in Niseko 2019

 Learn and Communicate in English

Learn amidst the natural beauty of NISEKO!

Created by members of our experienced Hokkaido International School staff, participants receive the best possible instruction from highly qualified teachers, supported by a dedicated summer staff that place students first.

Taught in English, this program provides students from around Asia with the opportunity to experience independent and creative thinking skills alongside outdoor physical education activities.

This school is aimed for children of Western and Asian education systems who wish to come to Niseko to enjoy the beautiful setting, study in English. A native English speaking teacher will present a fun and active learning environment for you – a perfect chance to have fun, think and learn at the same time.

Hokkaido International School Niseko has created this program for short term summer learners. This educational experience is usually only available to full-time students at international schools. Thus, we are pleased to provide this course for learners who have a keen interest in English whether they have learnt just a little or if they have lived abroad.

Students at Seasonal School will become efficient and productive in independent study through development of executive functions. Students will analyze their learning spaces, create an organized study plan that minimizes distractions, and converse ways to set and reach realistic learning goals. …..

The HIS Seasonal School runs over 4 weeks and each week is an independent learning module. The students will have an immersion experience and learn English communication through speaking and writing English.

Next we are devoted to play. Students can know that the work they have done up to this point will carry over into how they move in any task for the rest of the session without thinking about it. Tasks will include team sports, running, and hiking.

2019 Summer Schedule:

The theme for the summer will be How Learners Learn. Each week will focus on a specific inquiry.
Week 1 July 22 (Mon) to July 26 (Fri)
Week 2 July 29 (Mon) to August 2 (Fri)
Week 3 Aug 5 (Mon) to August 9 (Fri)
Week 4 August 12 (Mon) to August 16 (Fri)

Seasonal School Teachers.

Bri Bailey

Hello! My name is Bri Bailey and I currently teach Grade 7 Science at the American International School in Egypt. Inspiration, curiosity, and discovery are at the core of my educational philosophy as they are central to who I am and how I teach. One of my goals as a teacher is to establish a learning culture that promotes curiosity and tenacity in the face of challenges. Therefore, my students are explorers. We investigate the wonders of our world, the intricacies of life on this planet, and discuss the unknowns. My hope is to inspire our youth to nurture a positive attitude, learn resilience and determination, and develop into confident and compassionate global citizens. I want to do all I can to help give 'my kids' their best chance at success and offer them the tools they need to improve themselves and our world. I cherish the moments when students share how I’ve helped shape them into who they want to be, inspired them to look for the best in people, and when they confide that I've helped them be confident in who they are while challenging them to pursue their dreams. It’s these times that bring the most joy, and I’m humbled to have made such an impact on the life of another.  For more information about me and a peek into my classroom, here is a link to my digital portfolio.

Emily Atkinson

Emily Atkinson graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a first class degree in Japanese Studies. During her studies she spent a year abroad studying at Kyoto University where she furthered her proficiency in the Japanese language. Whilst in Kyoto she spent most evenings teaching English to Japanese children which she greatly enjoyed. As a child, Emily had been immersed in a broad assortment of cultures having spent most of her life in Malaysia and further yet having been brought up by a mother who is Japanese and a father who is British. Emily has always been naturally drawn to working with children and wishes to continue learning from the influential teachers at HIS in hopes of becoming a full time teacher herself one-day.
