Alumni Feature: Noah Ogawa
Noah Ogawa graduated in 2012 and headed off to France to focus his studies on first the French language and then on the fashion art niche of French couture embroidery. Recently returned from France, Noah is working to showcase his considerable artistic talents and seek his next steps in the world of art.
Before Christmas and over the school’s Spring Break, Noah showcased his embroidery art pieces (currently not for sale) and an arrangement of painstakingly handcrafted earrings, brooches and Christmas ornaments.
Noah is planning another show of art in the next few weeks. Look for additional announcements so you can look him up.
As you drive into the school parking lot, please make sure to look at the mirror provided on the corner of the old dorm. It will help you to spot any student cross over from the dorm to the building.
In the morning, please avoid parking your car directly in front of the school as the bus needs to pull in to drop of children there. Usually this is at 8:15 ~ 8:20 AM.

Welcome back from Spring Break! I hope everyone had a wonderful week off and is refreshed and ready for the final three months of the school year!
A special welcome back from Cambodia to our junior class after spending a week building houses with Habitat for Humanity. We look forward to hearing all about their adventures!

Spring Bazaar Volunteer Information
The PTA is looking for volunteers for the Spring Bazaar (April 14th). If you are willing to pitch in, please contact us at email@example.com
Volunteers are needed for the following duties:
- Setting up (the day before the Spring Bazaar and / or the day of)
- Ticket sale (these are tickets for purchasing food / drinks and student activities / games)
- PTA vending booth (selling donated goods)
- Organizing / sorting of donated goods (in advance of the bazaar)
- Bake sale / coffee / tea sale (at the bazaar)
Spring Bazaar Vendor Information
Vendors can participate in the flea market to sell used or new goods - clothes, toys, books, handicrafts, etc. (excluding food/drinks). Vendor spaces are open to the school community and the general public. A vendor space costs 1,500yen and measures approximately 2 x 1.5 meters (a discount rate of 1,000 yen applies for current HIS Staff, Parents and Students).
*HIS welcomes amateur and professional vendors alike. Specific guidelines will be explained to all vendors in order to ensure a relaxed atmosphere for this family event.
To reserve a vendor space, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call HIS (011-816-5000) by Tuesday, April 12th.
Vendor space positions are allocated on a first-come first-served basis - hurry up and register!!!
Spring Bazaar Donation Information
Donations will be accepted for PTA stall (please no clothes or stuffed animals)
If you have some items that you’d like to get rid of, but are not planning on having your own vending space at the bazaar, please consider a donation to the PTA. All proceeds from sales go toward grants to school programming (which directly benefit our children).
Donation box is in the front foyer of the school in front of the communications office

Whale Information Session and Snowshoeing
Three cheers to Ms. Lola and Mr. Sinclair for their awesome leadership. Last week’s EY Whale Information Session and Snowshoeing excursion around Hangestsu Lake will not soon be forgotten.

US Consulate Visit
Last Friday, I was able to attend a Crisis Management Exercise at the US Consulate in Sapporo. It was an eye opening experience as we discussed protocols in the event of natural disasters, missile strikes and nuclear disaster preparation.
While it was a difficult conversation, I left feeling energized and confident that this region can adequately adapt if any situation arises.

Husky Hugs go out
- Ms. Harmon for the many months of planning that she has put into the junior class’ service learning trip with Habitat for Humanity. It is a very complicated process and one that she has accomplished with great attention and care.
- Mr. Piazza who joined the junior class as chaperone on their trip to Cambodia.
- MS and supporting teachers for accompanying the MS on their overnight to Takino this week.

Big Book Buzz
Dear Husky Parents,
Thank you for supporting your children and their learning here at Hokkaido International School!
I am pleased to announce the upcoming Elementary Assembly will be held on Tuesday, 17th April at 10:30am in the Multi Purpose Room (MPR). All parents are welcome to take part!
The assembly is a great place to witness the fruits of your child's learning. Student lead and showcasing recent learning in the elementary, this monthly event brings smiles to all who attend.
What's more, April's assembly will be followed by the Big Book Buzz (BBB), lead by our librarian Mrs. Tull. Your child will hear more about the BBB through his or her classroom teacher. Suffice to say, the April Elementary Assembly is shaping up to be a very special event!
Feel free to come out to support your children and their learning here at HIS! You are welcome even if your child is in the Middle or High schools; the more the merrier!
