 College/Alumni Corner

Hi, everyone! My name is Marika Harada, an HIS alumni from the class of 2006! I was a premed student at the University of Rochester and graduated with two degrees in Chemistry and Religion. Today, I am a second year medical student at St. George’s University in Grenada. University of Rochester is located in upstate NY, and its climate is very similar to the weather in Sapporo! There are about 6000 undergraduates and its class sizes are relatively smaller, making the classes more interactive among professors and students. As a premed student, you will have to complete a set of required courses such as physics and biology during your undergraduate studies. I also recommend obtaining some clinical and research experiences before applying to medical schools. I strongly believe that my research

experience has prepared me well to retain a tremendous amount of information you learn at medical school. Medicine is a long journey (and studying), but it is a lot of fun if you love science! But regardless of what you decide to study, stay committed to your passion and build a habit to always challenge your knowledge! Good luck and have fun learning!

Upcoming Events:
College Fair - November 17

The high school girls basketball team had a 52-48 win last Saturday against the visitors from Seishin. It was great to see so many new members of the team contributing to the performance. The middle school boys played away against Nakanoshima JH on Sunday afternoon and went down 64-52 in an entertaining game which also featured many new players to this sport. This week the JV team play at home on Wednesday and the MS boys have another away game on Saturday morning. Go Huskies !
