All About B-Ball

Husky parents and community members, we hope that you have marked your calendars for this upcoming weekend because HIS is playing host to several teams from Sapporo and other international schools for a weekend of basketball competition.
HIS annually hosts the Snow Festival Classic. We hope that you will come out and cheer on our teams!!

Reggio Emilia

It was very exciting for our two Early Years teachers, Ms. Tanya, and Ms. Kennedy, to work so closely with Dr. Junko Cancemi. “Junko” arrived early at Chitose on Monday and headed immediately to HIS Niseko where she spent the day.

In the afternoon she accompanied EY teachers to Sapporo so that Tuesday morning she could come to be with the EY students and teachers at the Sapporo campus.

Ms. Cancemi was a longtime Early years teacher at Yokohama International School where she introduced the Reggio approach. HIS is bringing Junko-sensei to work with our EY teachers so that they may deepen their understandings on the Reggio approach.

 @ Niseko

Greetings from HIS Niseko.

Naruse san
This week, I would like to recognize the virtues of Naruse san. Our school’s bus driver demonstrates the virtues of diligence, trustworthiness, reliability, care, gentleness, and humility. Each morning and afternoon, without fail, Naruse san delivers our children to our doors safely and soundly.
My son is going to meet many good and decent people. Few, if any, will be as honorable as Naruse san. I feel very lucky to be able to work with him.

EY Reggio-Emilia Professional Development
HIS Niseko hosted Dr. Junko Cancemi at our campus. Dr. Junko helped us think about the story of Reggio Emilia as understood by HIS Niseko. Specifically, Dr. Junko helped me think about instilling an intellectual collaboration with our learning community. She left a lot for me to process and I am excited about our school’s possibilities.

It is a highlight of our school year. Thank you to Anita for all you do so that we may be good neighbors with our local residents. The Town Ski Festival looks to be a blast.
More information to come.

 From the College Advising Team

Dear parents of 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students,

This Friday, February 1st, HIS will have the honor of welcoming the Dean of Admissions from Northwestern University, Chris Watson. He will be available for students to ask questions about how to best position themselves and strengthen their applications to U.S. universities. Students do not have to be interested specifically in Northwestern University to take advantage of this opportunity. Mr. Watson will answer questions generally about the application process to U.S. colleges and universities. Students can drop-in to ask Mr. Watson questions during A2 with prior permission from their A2 teacher. Please encourage your students to make use of this valuable opportunity!

-- From the College Advising Team, Laura Harmon and Nick Fazio
