May 2 - ALL DAY Conference Day
Please note a change to the calendar from a ½ of instruction to no instruction for May 2.
Teachers and administration made a decision to make May 2 an all-day student- parent-teacher conference day so that more time would be available to families to meet with teachers.
There will be no instruction on May 2nd.
Morning Pick UP & Drop Off:
As dormitory construction causes congestion in the morning, we are asking that parents drop their children off further down the street from the building than usual and have your children walk back to the school building. This will prevent congestion around the school driveway.
In the morning, please avoid parking your car directly in front of the school as the bus needs to pull in to drop of children there. Usually, this is at 8:15 ~ 8:20 AM.
Thank you for your cooperation.
From the Principal’s Office

Dear Teachers, Staff, Parents and Prospective Parents of HIS Niseko,
“The international school principal fosters a climate and culture permeated by the notion that learning is always the lens through which we judge effectiveness; that relationships matter; that international-mindedness is fundamental.”
From: PTC STANDARDS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
As the leader of HIS Niseko, it is my responsibility to foster a positive climate for our learning community. As we approach the end of my first three years at HIS Niseko, I invite parents and staff to meet with me for structured 15-minute interviews.
The conversations will focus primarily on three questions:
How do you feel about HIS Niseko, so far?
What bothers you about our school, so far?
What is going well or poorly?
Please press reply to this message if you would like to schedule a time to meet with me to talk.
Kudos to the Lesson Study Team of Sapporo and Niseko.
The EY and elementary school teachers from both campuses met on Monday and Tuesday to collaboratively plan, teach, observe, revise and share the results of a single class lesson.
Both Ms. Lola and Mr. Sinclair rave about this particular form of professional development. The school was alive with helpful feedback from highly skilled educators.
We are extremely proud to host Lesson Study here at HIS Niseko.
We are busy gearing up for Sports Day at HIS Sapporo. This is a red-letter day on our calendar. Sports Day is held this May 12th on the HIS Sapporo sports field.
Please note that we've asked to make use of the Takadai Elementary School's parking lot for Sports Day. Unfortunately, they will have also an event on that day so we'll not be able to use it. Parents and teachers will need to park in the Sapporo campus parking lot.
I understand that this is a difficulty and I will try to see if we can reserve space for the Niseko travelers.
