College Fair: A big thanks to Mr. Fazzio for his organizing of our college fair last week. We had a great turnout from universities and our students were well prepared to ask questions and collect valuable information for their application process - either for this year or for next.
PSAT Tests Students who have requested to take PSATs in October should have paid by now. If you still plan to take the exam, please be sure to pay this week - Tuesday at the latest. WIthout payment, a student may lose their examination spot to another student on our waiting list.
PowerSchool (Secondary) Hopefully everyone has received their PowerSchool login information by now. If not, please let me know. It should be noted though that if you view grades outside of the quarterly report period, grades will not be representative for the “big picture”. The end of each quarter would be the best time to receive a true, balanced, summative view of how a student is doing. I will email parents a reminder at the end of each quarter.
The PTA is organizing an HIS community BBQ for September 23rd (the day of the open house). More information will be announced shortly.
Thank you for all that were able to make the annual hike atop Mt. Annupuri. We nearly made it until the weather intervened. Alas, it was a memorable time for all. Thank you again for a great adventure!

She graduated from Senzoku Gakuen College of Music in Kanagawa and studied at the St. Louis Conservatory of Music in the U.S under the direction of Silvian Iticovici. Ms Kawamura has worked as a freelance musician as well as performing regularly with the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra.
School Playground Safety
A concern was brought to me in regards to the playground after school. For many years our teachers have been concerned about the safety of children playing on the playground. Coaches have often asked parents not to have their children play on the playground after school during soccer practice. Unfortunately this plea has not been listened to. A stray soccer ball could easily hurt a young child and we do not wish this to happen.
We will be asking the PTA to discuss this problem with us so we can seek common understanding and a solution-in-partnership for student safety after school.
I appreciate your understanding and in the meantime I would like to ask that you have your children play in the park down the street on Tuesdays and Fridays when the soccer team is practicing on the back field. This will ensure that younger children are kept safe.
Husky Hugs go out to:
- Nick Fazio for putting together the 2nd annual College Fair at HIS last week.
