Head of School
Preparing for the 60th Anniversary
Quite amazingly, HIS is nearing its diamond anniversary. As many will know, HIS was founded as Hokkaido American School in 1958 when the US base, Camp Crawford, closed and with it came the closure of the base school that had been open to non-military expatriate Americans.
As we look forward to the next school year and our opportunity to celebrate 60 wonderful years, we are reaching out to current and past parent and especially alumni who wish to help out with the planning for the 60th year.
If you are interested in supporting HIS for the coming year, please email the head of school at firstname.lastname@example.org
We are looking forward to hearing back from the Husky Community!!
Congratulations to the MS Basketball Huskies
Our congratulations go to the middle school boys basketball team who were the champions at the tournament this past weekend. This is a first for the Huskies and a very exciting look ahead to potential future championships as these boys move up from the MS to the HS. Way to go Huskies!! (See Mr. Kelly’s sports article below for the details).
From the Principal’s Office
Thank-you SO MUCH for all the presents donated this week for Project Santa. They have not all been counted yet, but it looks like we have received almost 100 gifts for the orphanage from the families of HIS.
What wonderful Husky Christmas Spirit!
Early next week, I will send emails out to parents regarding accessing progress reports through Alma. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Greetings from beautiful Niseko.

Congratulations to the all-conquering MS Boys Basketball team who won this title at the WJAA tournament last weekend in Kobe. A magnificent effort to beat Canadian Academy Eagles by just 4 points in the championship game after coming from behind. Along the way, they also beat Osaka Sabers, Kyoto Flames, and Sons of Light. Ironically, The CA Eagles beat them by 4 points in the preliminary rounds. Coaches Matt McKinney and Gary Wilson are immensely proud of the boys as we are too. This is Husky history as they are the first MS team to ever win a tournament!
PK Cheng was named to the All-Star team.
The action continues this week though as the HS girls have games against Shinyo HS, Hiragishi HS, and Seishu HS coming up. The HS boys will also play Hiragishi HS. On Wednesday we hope to have a `3 on 3` competition at school for all comers.
