HIS Participates in the Annual International Youth Forum
The documentary film, Paper Lanterns, tells the story of kind-hearted, part-time historian and Hiroshima hibakusha, Mr. Mori, whose 20 years passion has been to connect with the loved ones of the 12 American POWs who perished in the atomic bombing of the city.
This story of deep compassion and humanity was the backdrop for discussions at the International Youth Forum that brought leading local high school and university students together to meet and consider the US-Japan relationship in the context of the past, present, and future.
Nine HIS students participated in the half-day event and, as always, were recognized for their strengths as communicators. A proud moment for such Husky ambassadors.

Fall Festival Thanks!
Many, many thanks to all the volunteers and to everyone who came out to the Fall Festival on Friday.
It was a very successful event and fun for all, made possible by a great display of collaboration between parents, teachers, and students.
Next PTA Steering Committee Meeting is Tuesday, November 7th.
Next SAT Testing day is Saturday, December 2nd.
Greetings from beautiful Niseko.
Thank you all for a terrific week of learning.
Thank You, Shirokawa Primary School
Please allow me to thank all the fine folks at Shirokawa Primary School of Kuromatsunai for inviting our MP1 and MP3 students to their school. Our students reflected on how much they enjoyed playing, presenting and eating alongside their “friends.” It was a perfect example of a proper cultural exchange.
I was very impressed with the many examples of enthusiasm, friendliness, and respect. It was a memorable experience.
We are already making plans for next year’s Cultural Exchange. Thank you, Mr. Sinclair, for your hard work in getting our two schools together. Great Job!
Mummy and Me
Thank you to Ms. Lola for yet again, another terrific Mummy and Me event this past Wednesday. My kid was quite enthusiastic about read-aloud, mixing pancake dough and learning alongside his friends in the HIS Niseko EY.
These moments are special because of your dedication and service to our school. Thank you!
Santa Project 2017
Santa Project time is upon us!
This year, our MP3 students, our Administrative Assistants and I are coordinating the Santa Project for two local orphanages: Aiseigakuen and Iwanai Kouseien (around 88 children). Our friends, Rie Pickering and Ami Small have begun this project many years ago. HIS Niseko is proud to build upon their achievements.
For this upcoming Christmas season, we again humbly request donations of money to buy:
- Gloves and towels
- Christmas cake
Just as last year, we request that each person donate 2000-3000 JPY so that HIS Niseko can order the above items via online purchase. HIS Niseko is organizing a group of MP3 student volunteers to order, wrap and tag each gift.

Three cheers to Arren for showing the virtue of LOVE this week. Arren showed a great deal of this virtue when he showed me how much he loves books. I can see that he will be a reader for life. This warms my heart.
Thank you, Arren!
We are lucky to read with you and we are very proud of you, every day

The basketball program is in `full swing` now with good numbers of players attending practices for all of our teams. The HS boys played a game last week against the visitors from Seishu HS and recorded a strong win. This Wednesday the MS boys and JV boys both have away games. The MS boys have an intensive schedule coming up as the tournament in Kobe is just 4 weeks away on December 1 - 2 in Kobe. Coach McKinney has been very happy with the boy`s attitudes and efforts so far.
Check out the schedules.
Zumba is up and "dancing!"
This is an HIS community activity, welcoming all ages! We have a wonderful, energetic teacher (Shiho-Sensei) who leads us from 5:30-6:15 every Thursday evening in the MPR (Sapporo). The cost is 500 yen for middle school and high schoolers and 1000 yen for adults. Besides this very reasonable fee, all you need is some determination to give it a go, a pair of supportive athletic shoes, and comfortable clothing. Mrs. Oda (teacher) and Mrs. Atsuko Clipstone (HIS parent) are the contact people for this activity. If you need babysitting, please let Mrs. Oda (Rm #202) know -- we will be trying to arrange something if there is a need. See you there! ZUMBA ON!!!!
