International Youth Forum

HIS students will again be participating in the International Youth Forum on Sunday, November 5. The event is supported by the America-Japan Society of Hokkaido. The events aims to bring high school and university students together to discuss relevant topics of global and diplomatic importance. This year’s theme will focus heavily on WWII and the post-WWII relationship and will begin with a screening of the award-winning film, Paper Lanterns.
Look out for more information on our student's participation.
As is always the case, we will strive to review warnings and advisories being presented and make the decision that takes into consideration the safety of our students first.
We again thank you for your understanding and look forward to seeing everyone back at school from Tuesday.

Parking

A brief reminder to parents who may be dropping off their children in the morning. If you are going to make use of the front parking lot, we would ask that you avoid parking in the middle of the parking area. This will prevent cars from being blocked. Make use of the drive-through area in front of the main building or use the back parking lot if the front is full. We appreciate your help.

Cross Country Day

A thanks to those parents who came out to add to the fun of the day and cheer on their and other children at the annual Cross Country Day. It was a treat to see so much support for the students and school.

  From the Principal’s Office

Parent-Teacher Conferences - Monday October 9th:

Secondary parents: Please contact me at principal@his.ac.jp if you would like to set up an appointment to see your child’s teachers.  If a teacher (or teachers) are requesting a meeting, I will contact those parents early this week.

Elementary parents: You will soon be receiving the parent conference schedule from your child’s homeroom teacher.

Wednesday Morning Schedule Information
A reminder that students should not arrive on Wednesday mornings until after 9:00am.
Students who take the school bus arrive at the normal time, however there is only supervision enough in the gym for those students alone.  All other students should arrive according to the late-start Wednesday schedule.
In the interest of student safety (and to allow time for important teacher-collaboration), we thank you for your cooperation on this matter.

Student After School Pickup Reminder
Each year, as weather gets cooler and students are not playing outside on the field after school as much, it is an important reminder that parents and students need to leave the MPR by 3:45pm each day - unless in an afterschool activity.
Most importantly, for safety concerns students are not permitted to play on the stage and run around anywhere in the school.
Parents: If you have a child in an afterschool activity, please feel free to wait for the activity to finish either in the MPR or at the hallway tables on the second floor.  However, we ask that you also keep your other children with you directly under your supervision at all times.
Thank you very much for your support and understanding.

PTA Steering Committee Meeting -- This Wednesday (October 4) at 3:45 in Room 206.

SAT Exams / Proper ID Reminder: (October 7th  sitting) - Students participating in the exam are reminded to bring proper ID.  Passports are recommended.  Please see me if you have any questions.

PSAT Exams (October 11th sitting) - PSAT Exams are  ordered for this year already based on requests last year.  However I am allowed to expand that order if there is need.

Babysitting -- If you are an HIS parent and are looking for a babysitter for an evening or on the weekend, please feel free to contact huskyinfo@his.ac.jp
Interested HIS parents can then be provided with a list of students available for babysitting.

Greetings from beautiful Niseko.

Congratulations to Mack!
Last Friday, our MP3 student, Mack, was awarded the prize for best design. Each MP student was asked to design a sticker for Hokkaido Core. The sticker could be placed on skis, hats and/or anything else. In its first year, the Student Design Award challenged students with design thinking. Submissions came from individual students only.
Congratulations, Mack. This season, we look forward to seeing your design all over the Niseko region.

 Sports

Fantastic effort from the JV Volleyball team last weekend in Osaka. They had wins over Marist, Osaka and Nagoya and a narrow loss to YIS in the preliminary rounds. Osaka then reversed the earlier result to narrowly defeat us in the semi final. We then had another great win over Marist to place 3rd in the tournament. Osaka beat YIS in the final so it was such a close contest between all teams. Special congratulations to Nina Neilsen and Lilith Horner who were named in the All Tournament team. See pic. Special thanks also to Coach Alonso and his right hand man Mr Aseltine for handling the team so superbly. This week the Varsity girls head to Nagoya and we wish them all the very best.

 HIS Parent E-mailing List

Husky Parents!!
Do you ever have trouble receiving the weekly HEx, Husky-Info bulletins or other school-wide emails?  Do you have another email address to which you’d like to receive these electronic communications? If so, please email our communications coordinator at jtomasine@his.ac.jp so we can update our mailing lists and include you as soon as possible!

 Zumba is up and "dancing!"

This is an HIS community activity, welcoming all ages! We have a wonderful, energetic teacher (Shiho-Sensei) who leads us from 5:30-6:15 every Thursday evening in the MPR (Sapporo). The cost is 500 yen for middle school and high schoolers and 1000 yen for adults.  Besides this very reasonable fee, all you need is some determination to give it a go, a pair of supportive athletic shoes, and comfortable clothing. Mrs. Oda (teacher) and Mrs. Atsuko Clipstone (HIS parent) are the contact people for this activity. If you need babysitting, please let Mrs. Oda (Rm #202)  know -- we will be trying to arrange something if there is a need. See you there! ZUMBA ON!!!!

 Junior Service trip Information session

For parents and students interested in receiving general information on the upcoming Habitat service trip, there will be an information session on Monday October 2 at 5:00 in Room 304. The presentation will feature a video from a past Habitat trip and the opportunity for Q&A.
