Concert Pianist & Alumnus: John Kamitsuka
John Kamitsuka is one of the earliest students of Hokkaido International School. John grew up in Japan to Japanese-American missionary parents who were founding supporters of HIS. John importantly made the transition from the original one-room schoolhouse in which HIS began to the then new, purpose-built school building at the old campus at Fukuzumi and remembers who exciting that event was for the school.

John reviewed several old photographs from the early years of HIS and was able to identify friends, family members and teachers in the photos.

John annually visits HIS to perform for the students of the school. Next year he will help emcee one of the culminating events to celebrate HIS’60th-anniversary celebrations next school year.
