Historic Visit: School Guest Tom Barnes

Just ahead of our 60th anniversary year, HIS received a very special visit from Mr. Tom Barnes who attended the precursor school to HIS, the US Military Base School, Camp Crawford Dependent School.

Mr. Barnes who was resident with his parents in Hokkaido in the years 1953 ~ 54, brought a wealth of historic information from his years at Crawford School. The closure of Camp Crawford has historically been cited as the reason that Hokkaido American School (later Hokkaido International School) was established in 1958.

HIS would like to thank Mr. Barnes for his visit to us last Tuesday and for his willingness to temporarily leave us his memorabilia so that we can digitize and add them to our archives.

Mr. Barnes left us with a small thanks in the form of Husky tee shirts for himself and his wife. We wish the Barnes our best as they return to the United States.
