Head of School
Fukuoka Guests & Service
Last week, HIS hosted a group of Fukuoka International School 10th graders and their teachers. The group came up to visit Sapporo for the week to see the Snow Festival and to sample winter sports at Fu’s Ski Hill.
The opportunity allowed our grade 10 students to get to know another group of students who are learning in international settings and together, the two classes were able to work together to provide some support to the immediate community by shoveling off the snow-bound and ice-bound steps that lead through the park to the subway station.
HIS along with FIS, is a member of the Japan Council of International Schools. This association provides HIS with valuable ties to the international school community in Japan. We look forward to even strong connections as we engage with other schools in support of an international education.

Beginning of Semester 2: A reminder to all secondary students that if you were required to attend either office hours or study hall last semester, this obligation still continues in semester 2. If parents or students would like clarification on this matter, please feel free to contact me directly.
After School Elementary Pickup: Many thanks to parents for picking up children on time each afternoon last week. When teachers already have many after school duties and responsibilities, it is very helpful when younger students are not running about in the MPR or up and down stairs past 3:45.
NOTE: If your child is in an afterschool activity, please remember that the pickup time will be 4:30
Thanks so much for your understanding.
Niseko Ski Race Recap
Thank you to the good folks of Niseko Town Council for inviting our school to the 63rd Annual Niseko Ski race. This race is a highlight of each winter. Thank you Mr. Sinclair for preparing our young racers. Your dedication to this event is noted and appreciated by all. We are proud of all our students and thankful for the chance to compete. Finally, we are thankful to Winse, Norris and all the instructors from Hokkaido Core. You trained our skiers to be their best.
A most special thanks to Noah of MP3. HIS Niseko chose Noah to represent our school. He spoke on behalf of all racers. In his speech, Noah pledged to do his best and to not give up until he reached the finish line. Noah did himself and his school proud. Thank you, Mrs Suzuki, for providing Noah with support in this endeavour.
Great work, everybody!
Ice Sculpture 2017
Every year near JR Niseko, local teams carve a variety of different snow sculptures for all to enjoy. HIS Niseko students were proud to take part in this special creative event. This year, our MP3 students led the way. They designed. They modelled. They reflected. They sculpted. They collaborated. They persevered. And they rose to the challenge to create a thing of beauty out of a block of ice.
Thank you for all the adults who came to support our students. You helped us focus, kept us warm gave us a ton of good cheer.
