MAP Testing
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing continues this week
We give grades 4-11 students MAP tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in the areas of Math, Reading, and Language Usage.
MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. With MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth. Over three weeks, your child will spend a total of about 4 hours completing these tests.

Reporting back to you:
Included in your child’s final report card this June, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth over this year. This report will show specific areas of growth, specific needs, and comparative data with peers, US norms, and other International schools.
If you have any questions about these exams, please feel free to contact me.
Also, I encourage you to check out the following website: https://www.nwea.org/assessments/map/

Skiing with Hokkaido Core

Thank you, teachers, staff, and parents for your partnership in getting our kids onto the mountain. Special thanks to the fine folks of Hokkaido Core for their expert ski instruction.
On Friday, each student received differentiated and “just right” learning on the Annupuri slopes. It is an amazing undertaking to properly pack, transport and return back to campus safely.
Our new ski bibs look rather groovy!

 Sports

Well, that is it for the JV tournament. It has been a fantastic experience for all the boys and a pleasure to stay at such a wonderful school.
Our first game on Friday was against Yokohama Dragons who we beat 44-32.

We then played CA Falcons who we led until the last quarter when they edged ahead to beat us 40-35. We all slept well that night.

The first game on Saturday was against the CA Eagles who we beat easily by 59-20. We had a good break before we played the Osaka Sabers and the winner would advance to the championship game. The Huskies started very strongly and we built a good lead early. The nature of the contest made it quite a physical game. Unfortunately for us we suffered the most from foul problems and lost 4 of our players before the end of the game. The final score of 53-40 did not indicate the closeness of the game and the boys could have been very proud of their efforts. We had little time to `lick our wounds' because we then had to play almost immediately against Yokohama Dragons for 3rd place. Once again we got off to a great start and led 14-4 at quarter time and we still led at halftime but then the Dragons hit the front during the 3rd quarter. We could not recover as tiredness took its toll and the skills dropped off and we lost 52-31 to a team that we easily beat on Friday.

A unique fact is that we led at halftime of every game that we played!

Coach Mario was so pleased with the efforts and achievements of all the boys. I can also report that their behavior was excellent on and off the court. I also want to acknowledge the coaching of Mario who at all times was positive and encouraging towards our team.

Thanks also to Masa for doing a great job with the stats and to Pamu who videoed and live streamed all our games. Steven who filled in as 'guest' for the YIS game.

William was voted MVP by his teammates and accepted his award at the presentation ceremony.

This week the HS girls will play Hiragishi HS away on Tuesday and the HS boys will play Hokkai HS on Wednesday in a home game.

Go Huskies!
